Animalic fragrances are some of the most challenging, fascinating, and unforgettable scents in perfumery. In today’s deep dive, I’m exploring 50 animalic fragrances ranging from sexy musks and vintage-style leathers to dirty ouds, civet-inspired creations, and a few truly wild perfumes that seriously tested my nose.
Some of these I absolutely love and wear, some I admire from a distance, and a few are just plain brutal. Along the way, I talk about musk, civet, castoreum, ambergris, leather, cumin, oud, and the different ways perfumers create that unmistakably animalic effect.
