Corpalium is the chilled earthen blooms of a sunless, subterranean iris, wrapped in a velvety feathered cloak of woodsy musk and honeyed, balsamic smoke. It’s a dark bird of myth, a single ebony plume plucked from flame, an unblinking amethyst eye, crystalline and plum dark under the cobweb veil of the pale winter sun’s sweetness. This is heart-stoppingly stunning, and I don’t think I have anything in my fragrance wardrobe quite like it
It opens aromatic, medicinal, sharp, and slightly bitter. Slightly spicy, but cool spices not like cinnamon.
After a short while it evolves into soapy florals, but florals which lean towards a traditionally “masculine”, whatever it means, kind - likely due to an iris that make it veer towards an ever so slightly severe scent, not lipsticky at all.
I haven’t detected any hints of animalic notes on my skin, unlike with the first three fragrances of the brand, just as a personal comparison.
Eventually the fragrance ends as a pleasant barbershop-y woody scent with still detectable hints of iris. It is all in all perfectly nice, although definitely not for me (from the brand I’m more partial to Poudrexstase, Ambilux, and possibly Heliodose) but it surely is good to smell on someone else.
The drydown lasts quite a long time but it’s not eternal, I would say around 8-10 hours maybe.
On a side note, I went on and on all day smelling my arm until I remembered the perfume it vaguely reminded me of, at least in some aspects: Iris Nazarena from Aedes de Venustas, which I still don’t wear but prefer it to Corpalium in the drydown, as far as I remember from trying it at least a year ago.
