Iquitos, from Alain Delon was released in 1987. The perfumer behind this creation is Gerard Anthony. It has the top notes of Coriander, Fruity Notes, Green Notes, Lemon, Mandarin Orange, and Nutmeg, middle notes of Aldehydes, Cardamom, Ginger, Honey, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley, Orris Root, Rose, and Ylang-Ylang, and base notes of Amber, Cedarwood, Civet, Coconut, Leather, Musk, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vanilla, and Vetiver.
Alain Delon Iquitos is a weird combination of rose, clean bubbly aldehydes (soapy smells) and dirty animalic stuff. It’s revered as a classic. But to be honest it smells horrendous to me. It’s so brutal and jarring in its use of clean and dirty together that it doesn’t work at all. Think of it like this: a seriously sex dependent lothario takes a short break from sex for a moment to wash himself with his grandmothers best rose soap. He doesn’t change his clothes. That’s what this smells like. It might appeal to some but for me this is a hard pass. Sorry. Not sorry.
