Bal d’Afrique feels warm, smooth, and quietly joyful. It opens bright and slightly citrusy, but quickly turns soft and creamy, with a gentle sweetness that never feels heavy. There’s something airy and sunny about it, almost like clean skin after a day in the sun.
As it settles, the woods and vetiver come through in a very elegant way, giving balance and depth without taking away the lightness. It’s comforting, refined, and very easy to wear. Not loud, not aggressive, just effortlessly beautiful.
Bal d’Afrique smells happy, polished, and modern. A fragrance that feels relaxed but confident, perfect for everyday wear when you want to feel fresh, warm, and quietly put together.
Straight up reminds me of a chill mango ananas sorbet in summer. Very sweet and very very fruity.
Oh my lord, this is lovely. I got myself a full bottle even before I had run out of my tester ;)
It opens with the most beautiful warm, rounded out, sexy, tropical citrus note. Not a screechy zingy blast, but a fragrant, tropical one. And the citrus lasts and lasts, which is wonderful for a note that is usually fleeting.
On my skin the longevity is easily 6 hours and during drydown it morphs slightly and becomes even more warm & luxureous, with a musky, sweet, slightly woody undertone. This could easily become my signature scent.
I would say this is unisex, maybe slightly leaning to the feminine side but not much. I am sure on a man this would be ultra sexy :)
This fragrance appears to be very popular for awhile now and I never understood the hype, as the notes did not sound like something I would usually try. But a few weeks ago I randomly tried some of the Byredo perfumes at the airport and the only one I liked, besides Gypsy Water, was Bal d'Afrique. The notes blend so well, so it creates this beautiful citrus/woody/floral scent. Very enchanting and I kept sniffing my arm. I see that this can be a safe blind buy but it might also smell different depending on how the notes work with the own chemistry.
Edit: After purchasing a travelsize and trying it again, I feel it is best testing a few times, as it smells different to me now as it used to upon first try. The aromatic and citrus notes are more prominent and I get hints of tea. Overall a scent that is pretty, but might not be for me and my preferance in the long run.

On my skin it opens with a very aromatic, woody citrus. The vetiver and musk are prominent before leading into fruity green florals.
It's quite a dry scent, both light and with body, and pleasent for everyday use.
