Welcome to the third episode of my satirical series called "What You Think You Smell Like".

My primary goal of this series is very clear: to bring to the light the (in my opinion) silly pursuits and philosophies that seem to dominate the fragrance space on YouTube. Not throwing shade at anyone's hustle...just believing that we can do better.

This episode showcases one of the hallmark evaluation factors of a fragrance here in the YouTube community: compliments. Do fragrances have the power to get you compliments? Yes, but not alone. In fact, most of the time I receive compliments about anything I'm wearing, it's usually on my jacket, watch, glasses, or other clothing item/accessory, WAY before anyone comments on my scent.

All that being said, here is how I truly feel: compliments (or lack thereof) should have a negligible impact on your deciding a fragrance is good or bad! What baffles me is how some folks might wear a fragrance ONLY because it gets them positive attention…not because they actually love the scent 🤷🏾‍♂️

External affirmation is great…but I don’t believe it can take the place of self-esteem and self-confidence. And a fragrance can still be amazing even if no one tells you that you smell amazing (and you do).
