Yeah, it’s a little harsh for some modern noses, and yeah it’s super green and earthy, but it’s not really playing it safe and that makes fragrances stand out. I can see how it might be a little challenging at first. This review is from a 1993 vintage sample splash bottle. I liked it, but I wouldn’t buy a full bottle, I just want it in my scent library as a piece of history. UPDATE: a little over a month later, and I’m really liking the scent profile. I’ll probably buy a full bottle (albiet it will be reformulated), crossing my fingers but it’s not a huge gamble. UPDATE: Bought the new formulation and I freaking LOVE it. I recently smelled a few modern men’s fragrances, most with sweet hints of vanilla, sugar, blah blah blah. The colors of the bottle and cap (dark green and dark brown) are perfectly suited to the scent. I love the complete lack of sweetness here. This scent is so beautifully masculine. I get the green notes, the pine, the leather, and the tobacco. I don’t mind smelling like someone’s uncle in the 80’s. It’s not one to wear if you want to get a young lady’s attention. It works in a club (assuming you time travel to the 80’s). It’s one to wear if you are working. Maybe outdoors. Quorum changes here and there. It comes across soapy and green one minute, and dirty and woody the next. It’s so worth the price even if blind buying. Wear it with confidence. Wear it because you like it. You will stand out in the crowd as a man who is comfortable in his own skin. Not a party bro looking for compliments.

I like this rose a lot, I’d love it and might even buy a bottle if it weren’t for the powdery note in it. I’m just not a fan of powdery notes. Neil has added some beautiful green stemmy fresh qualities to this rose that evoke feelings of walking in an English garden after the rain. Really great work. Love it on the card, and love the scent in a room, but on my skin, I don’t know if I could pull it off.

I LOVE THIS on my wife. This is such a clean, warm, inviting, intimate, experience. There is nothing off putting about this on skin. It comes to life and works its olfactory magic. I’ve never known a perfume to be so diverse on different people. I just wish the bottle was bigger.

Haven’t smelled this, but I hope somewhere there is a grown man who will admit to others that this is his signature scent.

Wore this to work today and it lasted a long time. Upon first spray, I can’t say I got gardenia, just a big blast of citrus/florals. In the walk-in cooler, catching whiffs of it about an hour after the first spray, I caught some really realistic gardenia, really hard to do in the perfumery world. Don’t over spray this one, or you will not experience this perfume to its fullest. Definitely recommend sampling. Enjoyed smelling my favorite flower on my shoulder throughout the day. Couldn’t wear it regularly though, as it comes off as a little too mature and fem for my vibe.

A little better every time I wear it. Quite punchy with the Jasmine and chamomile for a good while and really…one wrist spray on the skin is enough to last you all day. Trust me. This isn’t one I’d suggest spraying on your neck or chest until you’re well acquainted with it. I did however blend it into a 2 mil atomizer of vintage bowling green. maybe five drops or so. It’s really beautiful. On its own I can see how some folks say it has a bit of a Brut dry down, but It’s not powdery like Brut is. It’s loud and waxy and pretty straight forward and suitable for a man who isn’t afraid to smell of florals. This will get you more compliments than you’d expect. Out of my 10 different bottles of colognes, this one shot to the number two spot for my wife. Give it some time to mellow out a bit if you don’t like it at first. It’s not like anything you’ll find at the Macy’s counter for men. Update: months later it has gotten a little too urinal cakey to my nose and I can’t justify keeping a fragrance I don’t love for its whole life. I sold it to someone who really liked it. Update: four months later and I’m smelling my 10 ml decant. It’s turned super pissy in the worst way. I don’t know if the few drops of Bowling Green changed it, but nothing in BG is pissy at all. Either way, no thanks. Live and learn. Not into Jasmine.

If you want to smell nice just like every other guy at the mall. Pretty, fresh, and citrusy. Uninspiring to me, but not bad at all, and people like it. It’s perfectly alright, but do you want to smell like 100 other guys and every girl’s ex-boyfriend? This is like the Chris Evans of perfumery. If your aunt or mom goes to the counter at Macy’s and wants to play it safe, she’ll get you this.

Maybe the most versatile fragrance I own. Loved it the first time I smelled it. Had an earthy natural quality as well as a clean soapy yet peppery scent I was drawn to. I get a very slight incense vibe in there as well. Beautiful bottle too. Great pickup for those who aren’t too snobby to wear a bath and body works cologne. This lasts a long time on my collar. My wife really likes this one on me. I swear it out-performs some of my EDT’s and EDP’s. Next time you’re at the mall check it out! Get it as a gift, and skip the tired lazy Sauvage, Bleu De Chanel, Invictus, Burberry Hero EDP, JPG Le Beau, One Million, blah blah blahs they push onto aunts and mothers shopping for their sons. This scent deserves more rotation in the world. TIP: If you have this and Encre Noire, try layering the two. Really great pairing.

This is the perfume equivalent of the dude that walks past you in the mall with way too much time to spend in the gym and has probably never used the top three buttons of his skin tight dress shirt. No thanks.

Safe, inoffensive lavender that is cooling and soft. I enjoy this one, but I wouldn’t choose it for a signature scent. I’d choose something that isn’t as common. I wish my wife liked it more sometimes, but then again…I guess I like that she loves the colognes I wear that are a lot less likely to be caught on someone else in public. She says this one seems like it would fit a tech guy, like a corporate white collar IT kind of guy. Get this over Dior Sauvage though if you are trying to choose between the two. When someone talks about the scent of the American mall (at least in California) in the 20’s, they’ll likely refer to this. I find it to be really pleasant, my wife says it smells like a lady covering up the smell of cigarettes with perfume.
