I should like this... Reasons... I like oriental spicy scents... i like pink pepper it sounds good to me. I enjoy the others in the Hugo range...Hugo and just different are alright. (okay maybe not a reason to like this) I love sweet sharp notes of rhubarb and pineapple which this has. Unfortunately...I found it pretty repulsive and no degree of getting to know it better is going to get me past that! Shame really...I like these Hugo's as I mentioned. I think it's the way theyre presented, functional, modern man and all that business...Probably because the bottle looks like an army water canteen.
I've tried this and I initially liked it alot! Sharp, fruity and quite pleasant to me. However, I haven't been compelled to get myself a bottle so I'm obviously not blown away by it. I must add, this is the only Joop fragrance I like...they all seem pretty one dimentional (which is sometimes okay) but there's better young, fresh, fragrances out there.
Just to echo what @hornetz said really as I whole heartedly agree. Personally I love Hot Water and Cool Water is a true classic but this is not to my taste at all. Took me a while to make up my mind catagorically because I'm generally a sucker for punchy citrus and especially watermelon notes. I did get those from it but I found it to be very oppressive and inherently cheap smelling. It has that horrid fly spray thing about it and it doesn't settle in time or give me anything new in the dry down either. My sister bought it for me as she knew I was a fan of CW & HW I ended up giving it back to her a couple of days later to give to her fella. I think it reminds me of some of those Joop fragrances not Davidoffs finest hour in my opinion.
This is by no means a review...I've never even tried Duo. The combination of notes described here sound quite interesting sure... but can you get past that bottle? I can't! Innovative design you might say? and maybe you'd be right? Personally, I think it would look more at home smothered in lube and used as a sex toy or something from a distopian future where drones resembling this are sent out from the hivemind to crush rebellion and vapourize internal organs...than an EDT! Just an opinion.
Don't really class this as an aquatic as such depite it's freshness and name...for me it could just as easily be called 'green meadow' or something like that. Cool Water is really nice, popular and a classic for a reason...it's a triumph of modern, masculine fragrance. Comparsions to Green Irish Tweed are entirely valid and again I'm no snob, if it truly was on par I would be happy to slate the more expensive product. However, the Creed really does have more depth and the nuances change throughout wearing it. That's not to say this is not a great cologne because it is... and it's a bargain too!
Yes I immediately liked this one. Strange really when I'm pretty indifferent about L'Homme and La nuit de L'Homme but obviously not when you consider how different they really are. I mean the other two are okay and very popular it would appear but never really grabbed me. I think it's the violet leaf note that I love and instantly draws me in to the point where I'm hooked right off the bat. I'm definitely getting this soon so I can give a more rounded review..but thus far it's love at first sniff! Just an update on this, got it worn it still really enjoying it. Although its nothing like Fahrenheit really it's reminiscent with that violet accord the burgamot is prominent at first and to me it almost has a fizzy smell to it(if that's not too abstract) I mean like a kind of quinine tonic watery sort of vibe...but sweet and a little floral too. It's great!!!
Hate to hate...but this fragrance truly is awful. Again...I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon, this is only my opinion and evidently peoples tastes vary massively but for the life of me I will never understand the attraction of overly boozy scents. It's saving grace is the drydown if you can get past the initial unpleasentness it gets a little better...but not much. I generally like CK fragrances across the board, this one might be a brave departure in perfumary terms but I'm really not feeling it.
What a fool I am!!!! Yet another retraction of my original review...I have to blame a poor nose that day but this came across as boozy and repulsive on the card. How wrong I was and how many times must I have a knee jerk reaction to the opening of a fragrance. I was surprised to learn that the nose behind this fragrance was non other than Pierre Negrin the guy behind quite possibility the greatest triumph in male focused perfumery EVER!!! Of course I'm talking about Interlude by Amouage. I thought I'd missed something even when I wrote the initial review all I can say is my nose must've been shot that day because the opening to encounter is fine and not overly anything! It dries down to a really lovely and different scent which for me sets it apart from the usual bland designer rubbish...but only slightly so don't get carried away! Sweet, but light a little reminiscent for a moment of Mont Blanc Individuel (despite not sharing common notes) but there's something to what I'm saying....honest! This is not a full retraction because I don't love it Furthermore, although this is woody and has odd composition, I don't really get a lot of Oud myself.
Again...I'm not usually one to bang on about bottle design as with this one it's not hard to see how they came up with the name/gimic/branding. However it's totally insignificant if you like the fragrance...but the bottle resembles a hand grenade...how cool is that? Very I think! As for the fragrance? I've only had a small tester of it so it's not fair to give a final judgement and although it didn't instantly grab me (as I thought it would) it didn't repell me either. Not quite the explosion of spice I'd anticipated but I definitely mean that in a good way. A very nice balance that has a place in anyones collection.
V&R spicebomb Again another updated review...I instantly liked this when it came out but thought it was just okay and I'd bide my time before getting a bottle. Now that I have I'm absolutely intoxicated by it. I expected Spicebomb to be very extreme peppery and dry when I first Saw it, something I like but not when it's lacking sweetness or a citrus dimension or something else to lift it. This for me is a perfect balancing act of spicy, sweet, cinnamony almost festive mulled wine feel to it. Warming, subtle and gorgeous on my skin, huge projection and sillage for hours...a great fragrance and very definitely growing to be a favourite of mine.
Well...Z is an interesting one for me. At first, my favourite Zegna fragrance was Intenso then Forte then this. However it just shows you that you need a while to let them settle down and live with for a bit before making any hasty judgements. This is now my favourite, they're all of the same ilk more classy citrus business in the top notes but it's the dry down with this that makes it. I think it must be the exotic fruits that make it stand out from the crowd. This is a superb fragrance and can be worn anytime.
Ah ha!!! No wonder I love it so much it's very similar to Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger. Subtly different and quite different in the dry down, I love both of them.
This stuff is stunning! Absolutely stunning. watery notes, beautiful, fruity and refreshing! I love it!
Well I haven't had this fragrance for years I used to wear it when I was younger. I first bought it when it came out, I was on a ferry to France and it was everywhere. I fell in love right away! I used it for a few years then moved on but never forgot about it. It's pretty rare these days unless you go in the Tommy Hilfiger shop (which I don't) anyway I've decided to revisit it...and boy am I glad!! I remember the smell so vividly when I smelled it again it was like an embrace from an old friend. Zingy apples, very clean, sporty kind of feel! It's really really really nice I adore it and is really suitable as an everyday fragrance.
Really really lovely fresh fragrance is how I would describe this one. The melon comes straight away and this has to be one of my favourite notes, so refreshing and subtle there's lots of green apple too just wonderful. The patchouli comes on later and it feels wonderfully fresh & soapy on my skin. I noticed before I got this, lots of people saying it had no staying power and I figured that was probably true, due to the subtle melonee notes. However, on my skin it has lasted really well and matured nicely throughout the day. It's a lovely summery fragrance Im happy with it.
Finally, I've decided to bite the bullet and fork out on a Creed fragrance to see what all the fuss is about. I'm by no means a snob and was truly hoping this would be great after weighing up the notes and making a careful choice. Thankfully, I have been rewarded. This fragrance is magical! I totally understand the cool water comparisons and I really like it but truly this has more depth for me. It's botanical, herbal, almost menthol notes at times truly layered and beautiful on my skin when it settles down. It's just a pleasure an absolute pleasure and very masculine indeed. I hear Clint Eastwood wears it...of course he does! Who doesn't want to smell like dirty Harry? It's pricey but worth it...If it wasn't I would just say so....Just get it.
Jury is still out on this one. Oh I really like it don't get me wrong it's more of the same from Zegna... simple & stylish, italian freshness. There's Zingy citrus and not much else really for me... not sure it's worth getting yet? Certainly inoffensive and more understated (in a good way) than a lot of similar fragrances out there. Update: well I've had this on my skin a few times now and although my opinion hasn't changed all that much I seem to just love all of these Zegna fragrances even though I realise a few things. Firstly they're all made by different perfumers each time and they seem to have been given the brief of not blazing any kind of new trail or taking any kind of risks with Zegna's fragrances to keep the classic Italian ascetic. Personally, I really like them although you could wage the criticism that they're a little bland and I would take that on board especially with this uomo. I've found it pretty strong too...good sillage and longevity.
Love all the Zegna fragrances but this one is magic! It has a great burst of a kind of sherbet lemony zingy thing in the top notes which then makes way for a powdery, woody base which is just lovely. My favourite of the Zegnas I've encountered. I had a last minute meltdown in the shop and bought Zegna Forte...but this one is next on my hit list.
Love this its got the lighter fizzy sherbet lemon sorbet in the top notes...which somehow keep coming back within the first hour or so on my skin. Then the woodiness and tobacco in the base are just delightful and make for a real winner in my book. I think this one could be a little much for some after a while...and not an everyday fragrance for me...but I still love it. It's funny how fragrances can instantly remind you of people you haven't necessarily seen or thought about for a while. He wasn't the sort of guy you discussed male grooming with so I never asked but I often noticed he smelled good. This is a little anomalous though because Forte came out in 2010 apparently and I've not seen my friend in at least 5 years...strange? Maybe there's a very similar fragrance out there? Or I'm wrong? I doubt that though ...I trust my sniffer.
ahhhh...this takes me back. I haven't had this for years but that's not nessarily because I don't like it. I can still remember the smell vividly and echo the other reviews...this one is old skool...and although not in the ilk of true masculine powerhouses still not for the faint hearted. It was even a bit old skool for 92 frankly...very masculine though and not to my usual taste but you can't always go for sweet, aquary stuff sometimes you need to man up and get a bit macho...and this is the one for those moments.
Just not my cup of tea this one. I get lots of notes from this and things that I normally love cinnamon, grapefruit, leather, amber but I'm just not feeling this combination. I was put off by my intial encounter with it... when it was sprayed on me by one of those guys in toilets on a night out...he never even asked my cologne preference or anything? Just dowsed me in it. I thought I smelled feminine all night after that and was not impressed. A few nice notes came out on the dry down but still it's too much!
Not going to talk about notes on this one...plain to see or rather smell that it's a bit of an creamy blob of a thing....in a good way. A sugary whipped vanilla and mild coffee aroma and strange, fruit/berry, dolls head, Musk. Been on the radar for a while but not in love enough to be a priority yet...It is very nice indeed. I'm drawn to it. The comparisons to Rochas Man are understandable but not derivative or redundantly so, this engages me with a little more boldness. Update: got this now and I'm very happy with it on my skin it's really nice just on the right side or gourmand for me with its sweetened, coffee notes. Subtle but deep and thoroughly enjoyable. I adore this fragrance.
It's rare that I talk about the bottle because thats obviously not what's important about a fragrance, although it helps if you like it. This one is cool it looks like a hipflask you'd have out on the piste!(or on the piss) Unless you have super sensitive nostrils and are a absolute expert sniffer there's no way you could identify the subtle difference in notes between this and A&F Fierce. I defy anybody to tell them apart but I've only had a little tester in a shop so I will reserve judgement for when I've bought Legend and tried it side by side with Fierce for myself. As far as I can tell they're the same and that's a good thing because... It's easier and cheaper to get hold of in the UK than fierce... The bottle and brand are cooler and more masculine...and if it's anything like Fierce it's catnip to the girls. Finally...they both smell AMAZING and that's what counts. Update: I've not acquired a bottle of this yet but I have tried it numerous times now and I have to revert on my position slightly it's still a dead ringer for A&F Fierce and fundamentally the same but maybe this is a weaker version, slightly less potent & spicy.
Reminds me a little of gin fragrant and full of Juniper, vetiver a little floral and with basenotes of sandlewood and pine. A strange one really because I feel as though I shouldn't like it but I do. It's just a classic and masculine. Update: I'm wearing this today (a blustery Autumn/fall morning) as I just had a craving for it last night when I went to bed I thought...'I'm going to wear 1881 tomorrow.' and I was excited by the prospect. I'd honestly forgotten what notes I get from it except Juniper & lavender maybe? I tested myself and was pleased that I picked up on the majority of notes listed on here...quite pleased with myself despite being a bit bunged up. It's still fresh and spring/summer like but as I stepped out of the house into the cold it really kicked and gave a wonderfully invigorating burst of lovely herby citrus. I actually get lots of vetiver and oakmoss in this today very grounding and earthy lushness, almost dew coated. A splendid scent and a dark horse in my collection, I've owned several bottles but I seem to have a new found appreciation for truly how good this fragrance is.
Very woody, spicy, dry musk and cool freshing top notes of mint. I like this and it's very wearable in my opinion a fitting name too as it's kinda reminisant of the original Hugo (I don't know might be psychosomatic/Placebo because it's in the same bottle?) but somehow just different.
I liked it more in the shop when I first tried it. This one was by far my favourite but now I've gone from loving it to just liking it. I've nothing negetive to say here it's super fresh I get the notes of beeswax & the cucumber and apple freshness and then lots of tea. Always feel really clean and refreshed wearing this.
Just to add to my review below... I rarely use this really but when I do I layer it with the Lime, Basil and Mandarin gel moussant straight out of the shower and it's a mega refreshing experience! So invigorating and really wakes you up in a morning. I just have it in my head that it's more of a summer fragrance due to the freshness factor. Lovely stuff though and works well on a man...well me anyway.
Just lovely! Summery, light, citrusy. The Lime and mardarin hits you first then as it matures on my skin I get a slightly earthy but refreshing note from the basil and a fresh zesty aftertouch. Amazing!
