I currently live in Bremen, Germany, and recently had the opportunity to visit Köln (Cologne). Since I'm getting more and more involved in the world of perfumery, I obviously decided to stop by the Farina Museum/Store and get to know their legendary fragrance from 1709.
It was totally worth it! The fragrance opens with a very pleasant citrus, with a strong sense of the orange, bergamot and lemon combo. In the opening and then in the "evolution" I can feel a little more of this green touch and a more floral touch, but still very citrusy. I put evolution in " " marks because on my skin it really is a cologne, with low projection and lasting for about 3 or 4 hours. A very linear aroma that exudes freshness and a clean sensation the whole time I wear it. If I had bought more volume, it could become my perfume for the gym or quick outings on warmer days. Perfect in my opinion!
Just for the historical factor and the fragrance itself, I really liked it! For those who have the opportunity to visit the museum in Cologne, it is definitely worth it! Book a guided tour of the museum in advance! Additionally, for perfume enthusiasts like me, I recommend visiting the 4711 store/museum, supposedly a "competitor" at the time (1792) with a fragrance with the same proposal.
Sunny Day in Paradise
When I close my eyes, I imagine myself taking a dip in the cold sea in a sunny paradise. Coming out of the water and feeling the breeze on my face, I head towards the sand to drink my drink. That's the feeling! Perfect.
I was eager to try this perfume because of the combination of its notes. I had never felt this more "salty" aspect in a perfume. A very good perfume, I really liked this more marine and fruity touch. Right at the top, that salty sea aroma stands out, accompanied by citrus notes of lemon, bergamot and mandarin. During the drydown and evolution, the aroma remains clean, already pulling towards a much more sophisticated side due to the musk and the iris note. I was really impressed, I really liked its proposal and its balance.
Testing it in my decant here, the performance is actually "ok", considering the Creed house. But let's be honest, it could be better. Projection of 1 hour and fixation of around 6-8 hours, with a few good sprays. It really is a very different marine/citrus perfume in my perception. It is definitely worth trying.
A sweet perfume that I consider one of the best in my collection. The scent is very good throughout its duration, a sweet vanilla with a more amber/woody touch in the background. In the opening, I can clearly feel the rum note, which is incredibly just right and not too strong. In the opening and in the first few hours after, I also get lavender and perhaps this chestnut note to make the aroma even more perfect, in my opinion very "well-rounded".
Looking at this more alcoholic and sweet touch of the perfume, I think it is perfect for colder climates and nighttime situations. It gives me more of a date vibe than a party/clubber, in my opinion. I found the performance to be great on me, with projection and lasting between 2h and +10h respectively.
SWY Intensely is also very sweet, I like it a lot, but the caramel note makes it a more "pleasant" sweet overall. I think this one, Absolutely, might be a little more "challenging" for some, even though it's an incredible scent. It's a perfume that gives off a sweeter and more elegant vibe. For those who like more unique sweets, this one is definitely worth checking out, 10 out of 10.
Now it's easy to understand why this perfume is so many people's favorite. Truly, a masterpiece!
This is a very classy, sensual and elegant perfume. I've never smelled (designer) such a good and balanced tobacco note as here. For me, this tobacco aroma was perfect with the more citrusy opening of the grapefruit... The ginger and cardamom come together to make the aroma even more rounded, making a good transition to the more amber/cedar base of the fragrance.
A truly exceptional perfume, well worth trying. I don't know the EDT version, but I imagine it follows the same direction as the EDP, without fail!!! The only point to highlight is that the performance is not at all bombastic on my skin (from the reviews I realized that it doesn't happen only to me). Projection of about 1 hour and lasting for approximately 6 hours on my skin. I'm not disappointed, because I believe that this is what it's designed for. While it lasts, you'll be in very good company! I used it more on special occasions or even as a "daily" product, both during the day and at night, in mild temperatures.
A very seductive, charming, complete perfume... Divine! Congratulations on this masterpiece, Mr. Olivier Polge.
What an elegant perfume! I have a decant of Prada L'homme and at the first opportunity I bought the bottle of Intense. From the first spray I really liked the scent. It starts with this "bomb" of a very nice and elaborate iris, giving the fragrance an air of lightness and freshness. This iris and perhaps the patchouli (I'm not experienced with notes yet) give me the air of a "powdery" and clean perfume, just like in the traditional L'homme. Here in Intense, the drydown seems more amber to me and this leather note appears succinctly, giving it an even more sophisticated and elegant aspect!
I would say that it can fit very well in occasions that you consider more important and unique, especially if you need to dress up. This one does its job well. I think it could be used both during the day and at night, being perfect for more average to cold temperatures. Good projection and longevity, 2h and +10h on my skin respectively. After several hours and when it is close to the skin, it still manages to transmit cleanliness and the iris note, incredible!
For those who like the traditional version, this one is really worth checking out! I am very happy to have a perfume of this level in my collection, being one of the best with the iris note out there. For those who like this style, it is worth checking out Dior Homme Intense, Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privée and Valentino Uomo Intense.
The "simple" that was very well built!
A perfume with great quality and very high "pleasantness". I really like sweet perfumes and this one falls into that category, but how can I say... It has a sweetness that is very different from other perfumes that I like. Perhaps the vanilla here is somehow lighter and I can feel the lavender part much more, bringing a refreshing/aromatic aspect. I agree with some colleagues who said that it is not a complex aroma, but it manages to do the "simple" of vanilla/lavender very well. After the dry down, you can still feel the lightness that the perfume transmits, but with some more "woody" notes... But still in a way very light!!
On my skin, I managed to get an OK - good performance, with projection and lasting power of (2h - 3h) and (8h - 10h) respectively. I would say it could be used more for cold weather (day or night) and those days with a bit of sun and a bit of a colder breeze, with an autumn vibe. I don't know if I can consider it a "party" perfume, I easily believe that it can be overshadowed by other perfumes out there with greater projection and sweeter aromas (vanilla, toffee, caramel, fruity, etc.).
If you already like perfumes that are a bit sweet and especially perfumes with lavender, it's worth getting to know and trying. Don't expect a totally unique, complex and innovative aroma from this one. What it delivers is a perfume that is very appealing to the public and a light and very pleasant aroma throughout its evolution. It's definitely worth having in your collection but also getting to know the others versions of Valentino Uomo line...
